Best European Airport - London City ?

Landing in London City is always a pleasure, and the 6° approach is impressive. Landings are often hard because the runway is short. One very good aspect of this airport is that there is virtually no taxi time. The few gates are all along the runway, which saves precious time.

In fact all the transit through City is quick. Passengers get in and out of planes via the built-in stairs (no jetty) they walk to the terminal (no bus) and then directly to luggage conveyor belts and immigration. If you have no checked bags, you can be in your taxi or bus heading to your office or anywhere else 15 minutes after landing.

Security checks are as long as usual, but there is normally no queues given the low number of passengers. The “duty free” zone is sized as the rest of this airport, but the usual shops are present.

Because of its ruway size and infrastructure, London City can not accept planes larger than Jumbolinos or Saab 2000. As parking space is limited, and because there are no taxiways and all airplanes have to taxi on runway, the global traffic capacity is low.

London City is good if you go to London, or if your destination is directly connected. This is the case of most european large airports, but the offer is not as rich as more usual airports like Gatwick or Heathrow.

It’s not worth going through it and then take a connecting flight somewhere else if you can have direct connection from another London airport.

As a conclusion City is the best European airport… if you’re lucky enough to have a direct connection.

If you enjoyed this post, don't keep it secret !
