Angel Flights – Another General Aviation Service

“Cancer patients fly free in empty seats on corporate jets”. Just too good to be true ? No. Corporate Angel Network is a US charity whose sole purpose is to make this possible.

Not only large corporations share their luxurious business jets, but many “Average Joe” pilots do the same with their privately owned light aircrafts.

Many Angel Flight organizations exist worldwide (Google them), made of volunteer pilots and ground staff. These volunteers arrange personal air-transport for medical or humanitarian causes, all for free ! They use their own planes, pay for the fuel and landing fees and give their time.

Ambulance flights are extremely expensive and complex to co-ordinates and many cases do not require special on-board equipment. Angel Flight is a perfect solution for patients living far away from medical centers, as they don’t need long ground transport, nor to stay away of their families.

This service is just one more way general aviation serves the community, and demonstrates again that aviation is not all about airlines !

Even if Angel Flights are operated by volunteers, the organization need other forms of support, including donations ! It’s Christmas time…
