Boeing 777 Crash-Landing in Heathrow - Initial Report Published
According to standard investigation procedure, the UK AAIB published today the initial report about the British Airways Boeing 777 which crash-landed in Heathrow last week. Usually such a report simply states obvious facts. In this case however as and all on board survived, and the black-boxes were easily extracted and not damaged, the initial report contains a bit more information.
It appears that the engines did not respond to the autothrottles (”thrust regulator“) demand for an increase of thrust. When the pilots took over the automatic system, the engines similarly failed to respond.
There is obviously no mention of causes nor factors, this will come much later as the investigation will progress. The initial report can be found here, and as previously discussed here, it does not includes any personal information about the crew.
Given the particularly good circumstances and that all possible information is available, the final report can be expected in a shorter time than usual. However the time needed will also depend of the complexity of the factors that lead to this accident. No hypothesis can be excluded at this point. Even is “a significant amount of fuel” leaked, nothing says that the fuel system could bring it to the engines. Patience… only time will tell.
