Cessna Skycatchter’s Maiden Flight
The Cessna Skycatcher LSA made its first flight on the 8th of March. The one hour flight from Cessna Field to Mid-Continent airport consisted in stability and controllability assessment. The prototype flew with the 100 HP Continental O-200 engine, but the final powerplant decision is still pending.
The argument will probably restart, but I have to say it: the prototype has been built in Wichita, but the production will be in China (read more about that here and there). AOPA website offers a good coverage of the event. You can also read the Cessna Press Release.
This is probalby the aircraft many pilots will use to transition to glass cockpits, using the Garmin G300. I wish success and long live to the new Cessna !

I know the press releases said “continues to evaluate”, but as far as I can tell the decision to go with the Continental O-200D is basically finalized. It’s unfortunate, IMO, as it is a bit heavier than the Rotax 912.
