Two Web Wonders
I’m always amazed by the infinite variety of the web, and by the excellent content some put there just because they can. Research work for this blog frequently leads me to new discoveries, and two of them over the last days were so good that I can’t resist and have to share them here…
The first one is an ode to nature and flying. Shaun Lunt relates a three months flying trip through Alaska. It’s full of breath-taking pictures, both airborne and on ground. Most of the places he landed during this trip are off-runway (thank you Tundra Tires).
I flew mountains a lot in the Alps, and had the chance to land on a frozen lake once, so I had a good share of rocky and pointy bits. But what Shaun shares on this website is clearly one notch higher. Impressive mountains and glacier flying, beach landings, camp-fire beside the plane, and wild-life observation. Simply wow !
In one of his early posts (15th of November 2005), Captain Rand Peck wrote “I’m NOT a computer geek….my daughter is! She introduced me to this thing called a BLOG, she forced me into it. I never really wanted to do this or spend hours everyday contributing to cyber-clutter.” My personal answer to that is “Thank You, Miss Peck Jr !”
Not only Rand shares his life as a Boeing 757 captain via this blog, but it goes well beyond that. And how many pilots to you know who fly both the B757 and a Piper J-3 Cub with the same pleasure ? Some of the photos are also telling parts of aviation history.
And if my glorious description of these blogs did not convince you, please simply give them a chance: Shaun Lunt Alaska Trip - Rand Peck Life Aloft.
