What do you know from Jeppesen, except their charts ?
Any pilot probably at least heard of Jeppesen. If you never heard about that company, let’s say that it’s providing pilots worldwide with with en-route and airport charts. Most of us use their services, except may be VFR pilots flying in their own country.
I don’t want to do an exposĂ© about Jeppesen, if you want to lear more about their 70 years of service, you can click here to visit their timeline page. Jeppesen certainly addresses and solves some serious problems with their charting products, but they also offer more.
Other pilots frequently ask me where to find a good pilot shop online, Jeppesen is often the answer. Their offer ranges from logbooks to flight bags, via plotters and manual aviation computers. If you fought once in your life agains a CR-3, it was probably from Jeppesen.
In the “less than fun” part of the Jeppesen shop, you’ll also find one of the worst inventions of the whole history of inventions: shades, a.k.a. foggles. These are used to train IFR pilots when it comes to flying with sole references to the instruments. Foggles obstruct pilot’s sight, and most instructors use that. They’re really uncomfortable. Hopefully, my instructor used to unfold a chart accros the windshield, reaching the same result without the uncomfort.
Back to the topic now. As a frequent reader of this blog you probably know about my passion for good training and safety. So to my eyes, the best section of the Jeppesen website is the one dedicated to pilot training. As it’s always good to enlarge the scope of our training, you can also have a look at the maintenance training section, you’ll find material to learn more about your beloved aircraft.
Final words, to makes things clear: I’m not affiliated to Jeppesen in anyway. I’m one of their customers for charting and I bought two flight bags from them, and I’m rather satified with these products, thus this post.

I also like to use Jeppesen for their FAA and AIM revision service.

It’s just like getting the approach plate service but instead of getting updated approach plates you get updates to the FAR and AIM. It is great for catching critical updates that you may not find if you just buy the ASA copy once a year. And somehow the FARs look better in a leather binder!

You’re right Paul… the Jeppesen leather binders are a bit expensive, but they’re so classy
