Flying glorious England – vacation update
The English part of my flying vacation is now over. In a couple of hours, we’ll be flying back to Geneva, where I hope to fly the G1000 DA40 TDI. The last three days were full of flying. I will tell more when I’ll be back home, but just to give you an idea, here are some hints:
- 7h25 of PA32 Saratoga, of which 3h28 IFR
- 10 Landings
- 6 airports: White Waltham, Southend, Bournemouth, Guernsey, Bembridge (that’s Isle of Wight), and Farnborough
- 5 ILS approaches
The second day itinerary was White Waltham, Southend, White Waltham, Bournemouth, Guernsey, White Waltham, for a total of 5h05, a good part of it flying IFR in IMC, without using the autopilot. That was more than a simple IFR refresher, and I learned much about local procedures and usages.
English weather was just perfect for that kind of exercise: windy, rainy, low clouds (between 700 – 2000 feet AGL), but no icing. I had low approaches, IFR procedures in IMC. Not exactly what all pilots are looking for, but good for training.
I’ll put photos and videos online as soon as I’ll be back home, probably by the mid of next week. You can also expect detailed reports about these flights, and about what I learned about flying, and about my own training over these three days – and I learned a lot.
Geneva, here I come !
PS: Thanks to all of those who took the time to left comments while I’m away. I’ll answer to all of them later on.
