PlasticPilot’s Advent Calendar – 2: Two funny VORs

by Vincent on December 2, 2008

Who said that all VORs are installed in easy to reach locations like airports tarmac ? The teams in charge of navaids maintenance do not always has an easy job.

The Frankfurt Main VOR (FFM) is located on a platform in the middle of the forrest, in the approach to runways 25.

But this one can at least be reached using terrestrial transportation. The Saint-Prex (SPR) VOR, in the axis of Geneva runway 23, requires a bit more equipment – it is located on a platform… in the middle of the lake. Strangely, it is not visible in Google Earth, but I found a photo for you.

Read other Advent Calendar Posts – but no cheating !
