Engine failure over moutains at night in IMC
Max Trescott published a passionating post about an incident reported by one of his former students: an engine failure over mountainous terrain, IMC, at night, in strong winds. Can one imagine a less favorable situation ? Hardly. On the positive side, the plane was fitted with a G1000 and JeppView database.
The post includes e-mails exchanged between Max and his former student showing reactions at different moments and some final decisions. It contains interesting questions and advice about comfort zone, personal minimums, relying on another pilot or instructor, crew management and limitations of single engine operations… to name only a few.
There is really food for thoughts for all pilots in this post and it should become part of any good safety refresher. Click here to read more about this engine failure over mountains at night in IMC, from Max Trescott’s blog.
