Cessna 172 with G1000 and flight director
Axel flew as passenger on a Cessna 172 fitted with the Garmin 1000 glass-cockpit and the GFC 700 autopilot. This was a flight from Kjeller to Rygge, in Norway. His pictures taken from the backseat show both the PFD and MFD, as well as the autopilot control panel in the middle.
The purple V-Bars or the flight director are clearly visible on some pictures. This is the big advantage of the GFC 700 autopilot installed in the Cessnas over the KAP140 installed in the DA40 and DA42.
My standard procedures when flying with the good old KFC150 is to first select a mode (HDG, NAV, APR, …), then check what the flight director indicates before engaging the autopilot. This is something I always missed when flying with the KAP140.
Check this photo gallery to see more of the G1000 / GFC 700 integration and some of the wonderful scenery of Norway.
